Jean Jones

Jean Jones studied Fine Art at Kingston School of Art and subsequently Theatre set and Costume design at The Central School of Art and Design. Having received a prestigious Arts Council Scholarship she worked for some years in the world of theatre, designing sets and costumes for companies including The Birmingham Repertory, Oxford Playhouse and Kent Opera. With a young family to look after, she gave up her theatre work and moved from the bright lights of London to Kent but continued painting. Over the years Jean has exhibited her paintings widely and has consistently sold works to private collectors.

She has been a regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and her work has been shown in many public exhibitions and private galleries, including the Society of Women Artists, The Mall Galleries, East Kent Art Society, Deal Library and a number of commercial galleries in London and Kent.

Throughout her career Jean has always taught Painting and Drawing to aspiring artists, in Secondary Schools and Adult Studies but now her teaching is confined to private self help groups. She paints almost exclusively in oils and the subjects reflect her love of the Kent coastline, capturing the changing nature of reflections and light as well as the activities of people and animals on the beach.
